Design the User Interface of a Mobile App and conduct User Testing

Timeline: 3 Weeks

Role: UI Designer, User Testing Administrator

The Brief

While at Designation, my team was able to work on two live client projects. Our first client, FitLocal, ran an online database to create local pick-up games. They wanted to create a mobile version of the database where users could find local pickup games, sports groups and interact on the app’s social network. They had already worked with a UX Team at Designation to do initial user research, testing, and wireframing. I worked on a team of three designers to create the visual design for the mobile app’s key screens.

Project Scope

We had to create and test high-fidelity mockups of the key screens of the fit local app based on research from the UX team. We needed to test the functionality of the designs based on the wireframes. The client wanted to create a new look and feel for its brand that diverged from its cold and uninviting website. After testing we needed to create a design system in the form of a style guide to inform the client and his team on how to design every stage of his app.

Team vs Individual

Team: Jessica Sacker + Cristina Bichara

I worked on a 3 member UI Design team. We worked as a team to meet with our client and discuss the scope and goal of the project. Based on our first client meeting we worked on creating the design principles that would guide our project forward. We conducted market research as a team and from this point we took our team research and worked on our own individual design directions to tackle our client’s problem.

At the end of the project each of us designers needed to have our own individualized design projects of the key screens, prototype, and style guide. Throughout the 3 week sprint, we also conducted user desirability testing and usability testing as a team on our design iterations.

Design the Marketing Website for a Chicago fintech company.

I was tasked with redesigning four pages of the marketing website for an established Chicago fintech company. We were given UX research and conducted our own marketing research. Spring Four was looking to be more approachable to their users and for us to organize and refine the copy for their website. I then conducted two rounds of User Testing for Desirability and then for Usability.
